WIW 2022 Handover & Gratitude

UPDATE: 30th June 2022 – from Monika Roleff (Area Co-ordinator Central Goldfields Region). After eleven plus years, have handed over area-co-ordinator role of Words in Winter Central Goldfields. Gregg Joseph also handed over his role of Musical Director, and Christine Sullivan handed over role of voluntary patron. We would like to thank everyone who has been so kind and creative over the past years, and wish everyone well. There will be a new website created by Janice Simpson who is a local writer and has accepted the role of Maryborough Co-ordinator, Patty Brown remains Talbot Co-ordinator, Dunolly Neighbourhood Centre/Arts Hub have taken on their town’s co-ordinating position, and Carisbrook will be self-managing also, along with Avoca. Special thanks to local councils, Central Goldfields Art Gallery, Maryborough Regional Library, local communities, businesses, and venues, media, and the many local and incoming artists who made these years great. Thanks in particular to Maia Irell and Daylesford Committee past and present, Glen and Peta Heyne, and founder David Hall and his late wife Lorelle. The fest had not existed in Maryborough area before 2011, and through the Daylesford Committee and Rhonda Fawcett (prior Clunes Co-ordinator) the approach was made to me to bring it to the region. Many happy memories are the result. With good wishes the event goes forward. A retrospective from the past years will feature, following on with highlights. Thank you all.

Brilliant WIW 2021 – Thanks Everyone!

Though restricted, undergoing many swift adjustments due to Lockdown 6 announced Thurs 5th before launch Sat 7th August 2021, everyone rallied to go ahead with whatever we could salvage. When regional Victoria was released from hard lockdown to restrictions only, Mon 9th August, the result was that 8 out of the 13 events went ahead in restricted formats. Kind event holders and venues adapted to shift plans to different dates. It was only luck and hard work that allowed us to get it through. Thanks go to all of you who provided support, came to events, performed at venues, coped with the challenges, and provided first class entertainment for all who attended. Though all were small events, capped due to guidelines, they were vibrant and talented contributions from the community. We thank Maryborough Visitor Centre who coped so well with the changing landscape of promotions, Central Goldfields Shire for assistance with a hall, Gregg Joseph Musical Director for a great show under pressure, Ballarat Words Out Loud, NDIS community, Central Goldfields Art Gallery, Maryborough Writers, and Words in Winter Daylesford for promotional funding/assistance. Great to have Talbot on board again, too. Wishing everyone the best, keep safe and well, in these challenging times.

Words in Winter Central Goldfields 2020 – COVID-19 – Ten Years – Milestone – Thanks to all.

It’s been a challenging year, when back in March due to COVID-19, decisions were made in many arts and related fields to postpone public gatherings and events. This has continued into August, the month we are usually up and running from this morning (Sat 1st August), with the Clever Towns Crossword Challenge (Snodger Media) at libraries around the goldfields every year. But with libraries and other venues still restricted or temporarily closed, we haven’t been able to launch in the way we have in past years. Wishing to thank the towns of Maryborough, Dunolly, Carisbrook, Avoca, and Talbot, and every artist, gallery, musician, writer, painter, venue, and associated media and community support services for their part in bringing ten years of great stuff consistently in the coldest season of the year. We will post some flashbacks throughout the month to highlight the wonderful offerings over the past decade, and still call it a celebration even though we cannot launch as usual. Some images from 2019 are featured below. Huge thanks to all!
