Last Year Maryborough 2016 – Live & Local

Last year saw a wonderful range of winter events take place in the Central Goldfields region. Below is the programme for 2016.  We thank all those who helped create the wonderful range of events last year.

Thurs 4th August 2016 – The Great Garden Mystery – Renee Treml Author and Illustrator – Central Goldfields Art Gallery
Innovative exhibition of works of author and illustrator Renee Treml’s Random House 2014 publication “The Great Garden Mystery”.  Gallery partners with Maryborough Regional Library for this popular event for all ages.

Sat 6th August 2016 – Clever Towns Crossword Challenge – Maryborough Library 
Help Maryborough compete with other Goldfields towns to solve general knowledge crossword in a group setting.  Join us at Maryborough Library and solve one clue or more, using only library books.  Good fun!

Sat 13th August 2016 – Second Saturday Jane Austen Book Club – Kate’s Castle Book Emporium
Bring along a favourite book to review and share.  Join Cathy each month for reading of two simultaneous reads of Jane Austen’s “Mansfield Park” and Dan Brown’s “DaVinci Code” for some interesting discussion.  Refreshments provided.  Great fun book club.

Sat 20th August 2016 – Readings at Senior Citizens Hall – Hosted by Gail Oliver
Join Gail Oliver as well known local poet and host for an afternoon of readings by local writers.  Always a festival favourite, bookings advised.  Refreshments provided.

Wed 24th August 2016 – Empowerment Script Workshop – Author Lowen Clarke & Illustrator Adrian Masterman-Smith
Join author Lowen Clarke and illustrator Adrian Masterman-Smith for a workshop on the value of reading for children

Thurs 25th August 2016 – Aviva Live -Soiree – Gregg Joseph and Friends – Maryborough Senior Citizens’ Hall
Local musician and composer Gregg Joseph hosts an evening of words and music that wowed audiences last year.  Bookings advised, supper included.

Sat 27th August 2016 – Fireside Readings with Lynda Vater – Arts Hub Dunolly
Join Lynda Vater for a cosy fireside play read through and progressive story while enjoying mulled wine and hot chocolate.  Rug up for outside bonfire fun too! Bookings advised.

Past Years Words in Winter Central Goldfields 2011 – 2016

An average of 10 – 15 events have been held annually in August within the Central Goldfields Victoria region over the past 6 years.  The towns of Maryborough, Carisbrook and Dunolly have shown their best, and continue onward to include Avoca in 2017.  Now in the 7th year, the upcoming programme promises to be just as good as previous years with a variety of events to be announced late June, 2017.  Many different venues in the past such as Maryborough Railway Station, The Supreme Hotel, Bucknall’s Church, Senior Citizens’ Hall, Central Goldfields Art Gallery, Maryborough Library, KATESCASTLE Book Emporium, Maryborough Community Hub, Paramount Theatre, Dunolly Arts Hub, Buckley’s of Dunolly, Wright on Broadway, and more have supported the festival.  Many talented artists have presented in the region, such as Fay White, Jane Thompson, Jenny Davies, Jane Sullivan, Ken Haley, John Harms, Carmel Bird, Justine Sless, Nicole Jenkins, David & Rosie Demant, Storytelling Australia Victoria, Gregg Joseph, Gail Oliver, Chooka Parker, berni m janssen, Geoff Bonney, Forest Keegel, Rachel Buckley, Julie Gittis, Susie Sarah, Chris Hillier, Truly Madly Deeply, Lowen Clarke, Adrian Masterman-Smith, Hilda & Laurie Inglese, and many more.  We are so grateful for their participation and thank them!
