Words in Winter 2017 Maryborough District – Theme: “Origins”

Fri 4th – Sun 20th August 2017 – “From the Landscape in Which We Live” Exhibition – Craig Barrett Betsy Forster David Frazer Tiffany Titshall – Central Goldfields Art Gallery

Four Central Victoria based artists explore individual impressions of their surroundings, using various mediums, through painting, drawing, printmaking and sculpture. The works originate from direct interaction and inspiration from Central Victorian environments. Michael Grant, Curator, Central Goldfields Art Gallery.

Fri 4th – Sun 20th August 2017 – “JORG Schmeisser 1942 – 2012 Exhibition” – Possum Gully Fine Arts Gallery

JORG Schmeisser retrospective of etchings varying between text, image, anecdotal, scientific and diary style observations, depicting detail from places he visited during his life. A distinguished artist, he studied at Hamburg Fine Art Academy 1960’s era, and later headed the Printmaking Workshop at Australian National University Canberra School of Art in1970’s. An important and influential printmaker.

Stacey McCoy, up and coming local author, writes novels that are filled with heat, heart and bite.
Stacey will be launching her second novel “Reanimation” at Maryborough Library. A Young Adult paranormal romance novel event sure to please all fans of this genre.

Experience personal tales of origin told around the bonfire, guest speakers, curated exhibition based on the concept of Origins, historical displays, art and mixed media. Includes a visit from the Complementary Caravan, and a warming supper served at the Hub. Come along and explore our collective origins.

Sun 13th August 2017 – “An Afternoon with Mark Twain” – Buckley’s of Dunolly

Mark Twain visited Maryborough and famously quipped about it being a railway station with a town attached. This symposium will feature songs written by his contemporary Stephen Forster within the cosy fireside Melba Lounge.

Wed 16th August 2017 – “Origins and Adventures of Tilly Aston” – Susan Tully at Tilly Aston Memorial Carisbrook

Attend an informative talk on Carisbrook’s historic figure, Tilly Aston, by researcher Susan Tully at the Tilly Aston Memorial. Susan will discuss Tilly’s origins, childhood, family life, and adventures in Carisbrook. Readings from Tilly Aston’s work will be recited by Edith Rabone.

Festival favourite musician/composer Gregg Joseph hosts a popular event of live music and entertainment by the cosy Highlander Haven fireside. Gregg curates an evening of talent including poet Gail Oliver, singer Natalie Passalick, jazz and blues greats, and many more.

Join in the fun, children’s book author Lowen Clarke and illustrator Adrian Masterman-Smith are hosting a party to celebrate the story of Sam the Tram! Fun, treats, dancing, street parade and activities all included in this event for kids and all ages. Choreographed entertainment by Maryborough Gymnastics Teacher Maree Elliott.
