Experience personal tales of origin told around the bonfire, guest speakers, curated exhibition based on the concept of Origins, historical displays, art and mixed media. Includes works and stories by Judy Meldrum, Jenny Scott, Joyce Vater, among others, and a warming supper served at the Hub. Come along and explore our collective origins.

Words in Winter 2017 – Pre Publicity Meet


Great to get together yesterday afternoon with venues and artists for some press from Maryborough Advertiser at KATESCASTLE Book Emporium.  Article appears this coming week.  Some highlights from this year’s celebration of words in all their forms will come from children’s author Susan Day, Gregg Joseph’s annual Aviva Live Soiree always a festival favourite, children’s author/illustrator team Lowen Clarke and Adrian Masterman-Smith, Belinda Fabry’s mini TED style talk, and Lynda Vater’s fireside tales of origin with Susan Day and other storytellers.  Delighted to have two events coming up from Avoca for the first time.  Welcome Hugh Forster and team!  More updates to come.

Last year saw a wonderful range of winter events take place in the Central Goldfields region. Below is the programme for 2016.  We thank all those who helped create the wonderful range of events last year.

Thurs 4th August 2016 – The Great Garden Mystery – Renee Treml Author and Illustrator – Central Goldfields Art Gallery
Innovative exhibition of works of author and illustrator Renee Treml’s Random House 2014 publication “The Great Garden Mystery”.  Gallery partners with Maryborough Regional Library for this popular event for all ages.

Sat 6th August 2016 – Clever Towns Crossword Challenge – Maryborough Library 
Help Maryborough compete with other Goldfields towns to solve general knowledge crossword in a group setting.  Join us at Maryborough Library and solve one clue or more, using only library books.  Good fun!

Sat 13th August 2016 – Second Saturday Jane Austen Book Club – Kate’s Castle Book Emporium
Bring along a favourite book to review and share.  Join Cathy each month for reading of two simultaneous reads of Jane Austen’s “Mansfield Park” and Dan Brown’s “DaVinci Code” for some interesting discussion.  Refreshments provided.  Great fun book club.

Words in Winter 2017 – Central Goldfields Region Victoria

Welcome to the 2017 Words in Winter Central Goldfields Victoria website and blog for all the events and latest updates on this coming festival season. This year the theme is “Origins” and runs from Friday 4th – Sunday 20th August. For the first time, Maryborough, Dunolly and Carisbrook will be joined by Pyrenees town Avoca, with an event or two to inspire in the wonderful new Avoca Arts and Gardens Precinct/Gallery 127 at the newly rescued Avoca Railway Station complex.  With more than a dozen events planned, this season promises inspiration in the cold weather with cosy fireside evenings for all ages, exhibitions, performances, readings, and much more to warm up this winter.  Follow this blog with your email address registered in the sidebar to keep up to date directly from your inbox, or simply save the link for future updates.  See also the main Daylesford Head Office site to see this region linked with Daylesford, Hepburn Springs, Clunes, Trentham, Newstead and Creswick.  Programmes due for release late June, so look for these at your local arts outlets and Info Centres.
